58 Illegal Varsities In Nigeria busted by NUC

Not less than 58 universities or satellite campuses in the country have been identified by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as illegal institutions.

The NUC warned that the certificates obtained from these institutions are not recognizable for employment, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and further academic studies.

The university’s regulatory body, through its secretary, Chris Maiyaki made this known while speaking with Channels Television.

Maiyaki explained that the arrests made in connection with some of these fake institutions were aided by men of the Department of State Services (DSS)

The NUC secretary urged parents and guardians to check the commission’s website for legal and illegal universities in Nigeria so that their children and wards don’t fall victims.

This development was following the discovery of two fake certificates acquired from two francophone West African countries and other countries as an undercover journalist revealed how he acquired a degree from a Benin Republic university.

The public announcement containing the fake universities’ list signed by the acting executive secretary of NUC added that other nine tertiary intuitions are under further investigations or ongoing court actions.

“For the avoidance of doubt, anybody who patronises or obtains any certificate from any of these illegal institutions does so at his or her own risk.

“Certificates obtained from these sources will not be recognised for the purposes of NYSC, employment, and further studies,” Maiyaki warned.
