Coalition Faults Peter Obi On Death of Students At Auchi Poly

Auchi Poly Spat Sreening Schedule

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups on Transparency in Governance, led by the Empowerment for Unemployed Youth Initiative, have debunked media report that two Students of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, died during Electoral Crisis.

Not only that, the Coalition also criticized what it described as a false and unverified statement by the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, regarding the recent Student Union Government (SUG) electoral crisis at the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State.

Addressing Journalists in Abuja on Friday, the Convener of the Coalition, Comrade Danesi Momoh Prince, expressed dismay that Obi claimed, via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, that two individuals lost their lives during the unrest.

He said such an unfounded statement only served to heighten panic among parents, guardians, and the general public, who feared that students were under grave threat or facing serious security breaches.

Comrade Momoh questioned why a prominent figure like Obi would share unverified information when he has access to credible sources and institutions that could provide accurate updates.

Also, a Co-Convener of the Coalition, Comrade Igwe Ude-Umanta, emphasized that verified security reports, including findings from the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), which was an accredited observer during the election, confirmed that no lives were lost.

The coalition concluded by making several recommendations to ensure peaceful elections in the future, including the consideration of adopting electronic voting systems across tertiary institutions.
