JAMB Uncovers 1,665 Fake A'Level Results During 2023 Direct Entry Registration

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that not less that 1,665 candidates have used fake A’Level Results during the 2023 Direct Entry Registration exercise.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, made this information available during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES).

The Board said it had introduced the A’Level results verification regime to caution cases of corruption recorded in the system and to restore integrity to the JAMB direct entry admissions system.

Prof. Oloyede explained that out of the total number of fake results recorded, 453 were university diplomas, 397 were from Colleges of education across the country and 815 A’Level certificates.

Hence, the JAMB registrar called for the need adequate safeguard of the integrity of A’Level certificates by putting in lasting measures.

He reminisce the period when Direct Entry admissions are taken care of by awarding institutions for necessary screening and due diligence. He mentioned that the admission board was left in shock when it discovered only six certificates of the 148 direct entry applications from Bayero University, Kano (BUK) are genuine.

The registrar noted that in a bid to combat menace such like the Bayero University, critical stakeholders met and set up measures. The constitution of the A’Level results verification Task force as well as creating of a common platform for verification of A’Level results were birth from the stakeholders meeting.

He said the platform was reliable and user-friendly, as it only takes five minutes to verify any given certificate.

Prof. Oloyede also disclosed that, the board has put in place a “No verification, No admission” policy to underscore the importance attached to the exercise.

Earlier, the NANCES President, Comrade Eegunjobi Samuel, commended the good work the registrar was doing, particularly in terms of restoring sanity, integrity, and credibility in the nation’s examination and admission processes.
