NAF Officer Makes History at British Military College

Flying Officer David Sangokoya of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the prestigious International Cadet Sword of Honour from the Royal Air Force College Cranwell in the United Kingdom.

This accolade recognizes him as the top international student and overall best performer in the Leadership and Training Course for the 2023-2024 academic year.

With this historic achievement, Flying Officer Sangokoya has become the first cadet from Africa to receive this esteemed honor since the college’s establishment over a century ago. His exceptional performance has set a new benchmark for future cadets.

During a commendation ceremony held at the NAF Headquarters in Abuja, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, praised Sangokoya’s accomplishment as “truly ground-breaking.”

He emphasized that this success highlights the excellence within the Nigerian Air Force, showcasing that its officers and cadets can compete with the best in the world.

“Your journey as an officer has begun with this prestigious accolade. But the true measure of your success will be seen in how you serve, lead, and contribute to the mission of the Nigerian Air Force and the defense of our great nation,” Abubakar added.

The CAS also expressed gratitude to the UK Government for its unwavering support in providing world-class training opportunities to Nigerian personnel.

He highlighted that this support has enabled NAF officers and men to acquire invaluable skills and knowledge, thereby strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing their capacity to address global security challenges.

Flying Officer David Sangokoya’s achievement not only brings pride to the Nigerian Air Force but also serves as an inspiration to aspiring military personnel across Africa.
