Six students of Federal University, Lokoja, and a driver on Monday afternoon lost their lives as articulated vehicles rammed into the school shuttle bus conveying them to school at the permanent site, Felele, Lokoja.
An eyewitness account said the accident occurred at about 2.30 pm on Monday.
According to the source, “The articulated vehicle was carrying wood and hundreds of kegs of palm oil heading to the Abuja axis; unfortunately, the driver lost the brake and rammed into the FUL shuttle bus already filled up with students and was about to convey them to school.
“The university shuttle bus was crushed by the articulated vehicles.”
However, officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission were on hand to rescue some victims who were trapped under the articulated vehicle.

The State Sector Commandant of the FRSC, Mr Samuel Oyedeji, who led his team to the scene of the accident, disclosed to newsmen that he couldn’t confirm the actual numbers of those who lost their lives.
He, however, disclosed those who were injured have been moved to Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja and Kogi State Specialist Hospital, also in Lokoja, for further treatment, while bodies have been deposited in the mortuary of the hospitals for identification.
