Army Honours Late Lagbaja, Awards Scholarship to Student

The 18 Brigade, Litani Barracks of the Nigerian Army in Bida, Niger State, has opened a condolence register in honor of the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Toareed Lagbaja, who passed away on November 6.

Commander of the 18 Brigade, Brigadier-General Taiye Ahmed, described Lagbaja as a “selfless, committed and dedicated officer” whose legacies will endure in the army’s history.

Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar echoed similar sentiments, lamenting Lagbaja’s passing as “a great loss to the country.”

Abubakar praised Lagbaja’s exceptional leadership, emphasizing his purposeful guidance of the Nigerian Army.

Representatives from various organizations, including the Bida Police Area Command, FRSC, and Federal Medical Center Bida, visited the barracks to pay their respects.

In a separate development, the 18 Brigade presented a scholarship to Miss Binta Yahaya, a 100-level indigent student at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai.

Brigadier General Taye Ahmed highlighted the initiative’s significance in fostering community ties, noting that the scholarship aims to strengthen civil-military relations and support deserving students.

Miss Binta Yahaya was selected out of Four students from Kontagora, Rafi, Shiroro, and Bida, areas within the brigade’s operational zone.

Expressing gratitude, Binta Yahaya acknowledged that the scholarship would greatly alleviate her family’s financial burden.
