The Saki Zonal Command of Oyo State Fire Services Agency has recovered the lifeless body of a two-year-old girl (name withheld) from a deep well at Orita Mokola Junction, Seedu Sabarumu, Sango in Saki Local Government Area of the state.

The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Services Agency Reform, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed this to newsmen in Ibadan, the state capital, on Wednesday.

He explained that the girl’s body was recovered and handed over to a team of policemen led by the Chief Superintendent of Police, Odunbanjo Kehinde, for further necessary action.

The governor’s aide stressed that an investigation had begun to unravel the circumstances behind the unfortunate incident.

The cause of the incident was unknown but it was gathered that the fire service Post Incident Investigation Team was carrying out the necessary investigation to know its root cause.

Akinwande said, “The emergency call was reported at the Saki Fire Station at exactly 13:43hrs by a running caller that someone fell into a well at the above address.

“The agency’s officers led by PFS11 Saka quickly left for the scene of the incident. On arrival, we were informed that a girl of two years of age was inside the well for a long time.

“We swiftly engaged our rescue equipment and CFM Adediran Jacob entered the well for a search and rescue operation.

“The girl was recovered and handed over to a team of policemen led by CSP Kehinde for further necessary action.”

He, therefore, advised the public to take all safety measures in protecting their well and septic pits from free accessibility to the public to avoid being a death trap.
