The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed has assured the continued commitment of the Scheme to prioritize the safety and welfare concerns of corps members.

He stated this when he paid an official visit to the Borno State NYSC Orientation Camp, accompanied by his entourage, including the Head of Special Duties, Mr. Nura Mohammed.

    Warm Welcome and Camp Updates

In his speech, Jiya reported that a total of 991 corps members had been registered for the Batch C Stream II orientation course, comprising 577 males and 414 females. He commended the corps members for their discipline and positive attitude during the ongoing orientation exercise.

However, he also shared the unfortunate news of the loss of a corps member, offering prayers for the departed soul. He assured the Director General that all necessary measures were in place to ensure the safety and security of corps members throughout the camp period.

Additionally, Jiya highlighted the corps members’ impressive performance in the inter-platoon quiz competition drill, which was observed by the Nigerian Army, who expressed their pride in the participants’ dedication and intelligence.

Before delivering his speech, Brigadier General YD Ahmed’s profile was presented to the corps members by his protocol officer. Stepping onto the podium, the DG expressed his delight at being in Borno, stating, “I am happy to be here this evening. He emphasized the importance of abiding by the NYSC bylaws, participating actively in Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programs, and embracing the opportunities presented during their service year.

Furthermore, He reassured corps members that none would be posted to unsafe locations, urging them to respect the culture and laws of their host communities. He reiterated that Borno State is as peaceful as any other state and encouraged corps members to give their best in their Primary Place of Assignment (PPA) while making a meaningful impact in their communities.

    Incentives and Closing Remarks

Highlighting the benefits of service, the DG mentioned that corps members actively engaging in Community Development Service (CDS) projects could receive rewards, including scholarships up to the PhD level and employment opportunities at the federal level. He also underscored the importance of the SAED program, noting that “the workplace today requires skills, not just certificates. ‘What can you do?’ is a question you should expect when applying for jobs.”

In a major announcement, He (Ahmed) confirmed that the Federal Government had approved an increase in corps members’ monthly allowance (Alawee) to ₦77,000.
