Stakeholders Decry LPU Interference In NALS Electoral Process

Stakeholders of the National Association of Lanlate Students (NALS) has expressed disappointment over the interference of the Lanlate Progressive Union (LPU) in the Democratic process of the association.

This comes after the LPU allegedly halted the inauguration of the newly elected executives of the association being held at the Lanlate town hall, Lanlate.

Campus 360 gathered from a source within the NALS Students Electoral Committee (SECO) who claimed anonymity that the LPU had made attempts to manipulate the SECO into disqualifying the two presidential aspirants, Stephen Olayiwola and Idris Ayegoro during the election screening held on Monday, 30th December, 2024.

The source explained the SECO could not oblige to the LPU dictation as both Candidates possessed documents that cleared them as indigenes of the community.

It would be recalled that Ayegoro Idris was declared winner of the NALS Election 2024 in a press released made by the SECO PRO, signed  by the SECO chairman, Taderi Adeolu on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025.

Ayegoro had defeated Olayiwola having pulled 199 of the 316 valid votes while the later secured 117 votes.

The SECO declared the election as “peaceful, free, and fair”. “Electoral officials demonstrated professionalism throughout the process” SECO added.

In a Video released by the elected executives, the president elect, Ayegoro Idris decried the actions of LPU as an action to deny him his rights.

He expressed that his indigeneship of the community was never doubted having represented the community in various capacities.

Also speaking, the newly elected General Secretary of the association, Jolaoso Olaoye said the development is an attempt to undermine the goodwill and support that has been given to the students populace.

As at the time of filling this report, efforts to reach the LPU spokesperson and the SECO PRO proved abortive.
