The Kano State Government has directed all private and public schools in the state to adhere strictly to the 2024/25 school calendar issued by the Ministry of Education.
“All primary and post-primary schools in Kano State must close on Friday, February 28, 2025, and reopen on Sunday, April 6, 2025,” said the Director of Special Duties, Mustapha Badawi Yahya, in a statement on Thursday.
“Schools that fail to comply with this directive will face appropriate sanctions,” it stated.
It said the directive aligned with the government’s policy under Governor Abba Yusuf to enhance teaching and learning while ensuring balanced and sustainable school operations.
This measure is to ensure improved teaching and learning while promoting balanced and sustainable growth in schools across the state,” the statement added.
Campus 360 reported that reactions has continued to trial the decision of the northern states of Kano, Katsina, Bauchi, and Kebbi which ordered schools to close throughout the holy month of Ramadan.The Christian Association of Nigeria opposed the development, lamenting that schoolchildren would be deprived of educational opportunities during the period.
Ruling out reconsideration, the Kebbi, Bauchi and Kano governments reaffirmed that the holiday granted to both primary and secondary schools in their states for Ramadan fast had come to stay. To forestall non-compliance, Yahya, in a statement on Thursday, warned that any school that failed to comply would be heavily sanctioned.
