Meaning of Cut Off Mark

What does “Cut Off mark” refer to? A cut off mark is a score that has been established by a certain institution as a requirement for enrolling students in a given field of study. This rating is typically given to candidates depending on how well they did on a certain examination.

Students who have nearly met the requisite Cut Off point will, nevertheless, be admitted and given preference in the admissions process over those who have just met the Cut Off mark.

This is the mark that a student must achieve in order to be accepted into a school. You won’t be able to register for a school’s post-UTME if your score is below than that of the cutoff point, which means you won’t be admitted to that school.

The Cut Off Mark can be decided by each school independently. They are unable to set a Cut Off mark, however, that is lower than the JAMB minimum.

University of Maiduguri Departmental Cut Off Mark 2024

The minimum score needed to enroll in a course or department at a school is known as the departmental Cut Off mark. The higher the Cut Off Mark, the more challenging the course. Each university establishes a Cut Off mark each year for all courses. Departmental Cut Out marks are published by certain departments but not by others.

Below are the Cut Off mark for each course;

250 – Medicine
240 – Law
180 – Biological Sciences (Microbiology, Biochemistry, Anatomy,etc)
220 – Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical,Electrical,Civil,Computer, etc)
190 – Physical Science Courses (Industrial Chemistry, Industrial Physics, Computer Science, Geology, etc)

The performance of applicants who applied to study in the school for that year affects the Cut Off mark.

I have some advice! Have a goal of exceeding the Cut Off Mark rather than just meeting it because there are certain extremely competitive courses where hitting the precise Cut Off Mark won’t be successful. Engineering, pharmacy, nursing, law, accounting, economics, and so forth.
